Josh has been waiting - waiting for the day to arrive when Daddy would say he was old enough to do his first REAL backpacking trip. Well, the day finally arrived. On Josh's eighth birthday he got to experience his first (of hopefully many) backpacking adventure. It was the real deal. He carried his own pack, gained about 1,800 feet in elevation and traveled 9 miles round trip! It was not an easy task. There were points of exhaustion, frustration and elation. At points along the way Jim had to encourage him not to look at the daunting mountain ahead but to keep his eyes fixed upon the steps right in front of him. There were points of tears shed, fears faced and cheers shared. In the end the trip held many lessons for Josh. It is a trip he will never forget and always remember that with God's help, "I did that!"
